Got to Lake Crabtree around 11:30 and stayed until 4:15. Had one rod out for carp, and my ultralight with a beetlespin, then just fishing for cats using whatever bait I could find (dead minnow, freshwater molluscs). Caught several cats, including one that must have been 1.5-2 lbs. Good fight on an ultralight!
Didn't get a single hit all day on my carp rod, but though I would reel it in, check my bait and put it back out with 15 minutes left to fish. 4pm hit and I had everything packed. All I had to do was reel in my line and put my rod and rod holder in the trunk. Just as I was about to turn around, I heard my baitrunner screaming. I had a carp on the line just second before calling it a day
Brought it in, got a quick photo, and headed home.
Classic "just one last cast" catch. The lesson is that when you are about to reeling in your line, leave it out just a little longer
