New to the area from California. Went and fished Lake Wheeler on Memorial Day. Was a terrible. No fish, just a couple bites. Was fishing for LM's. On top of it, trolling battery died super early in the day and had to row back to the rental spot. Any suggestions on where and what to throw at that lake? More of a Finesse fisher. Use lots of plastics. Thanks

The bass can be finicky in the lake at times..I've been skunked and the next time out caught 30..I will tell you a major secret to that lake though if you can find the red with black core trick worm and fish a finesse Carolina rig you WILL catch fish especially in February..lake Wheeler is hott in February with anything RED bc of the crawfish hatch..I kayak fish and tournament fish the area hit me up and we'll rip some lips...(919)441-3478

Here is the type of lake Wheeler can be.
You can have two guys on a bass boat trolling along casting the perimeter of a cove and catching fish.
You can have a second bass boat doing the same thing behind them and catching nothing. That lake has it's secrets and it's almost like you have to devote the time for the right of passage. One of the more difficult small bodies of water to fish to me until you learn it.

The best days I've had with catching fat chubs though is getting out in the lake and cast to structure you can't see. I've literally caught 3-5 pound bass as fast as I could take one off the hook and recast right before a cold front. Caught them like that until the wind picked up and the first drop of rain fell. Shut off like a faucet.

Seems to me nobody uses float tubes out here. Mostly kayak fisherman? Either way would love to meet up with some locals out here. I know nobody but family as of now. Been checking out Google Earth and seen there;s not a whole lot bu me except private ponds. Seen Lake Raleigh and Lake Johnson. Eventually check them out soon. Fished a pond few blocks from my house today. No pressure there so I caught 14 bass. Best was between 4-5lbs. Mostly small fish. I'm looking for work right now and available to fish so let me know if you got any free time
