Water Sky Water resources Atmosphere Afterglow
Fished probably my last salt trip of this year last weekend. My oldest and his cousin wanted to get into the specks one more time before weather and holidays got in the way. We left late Thursday afternoon, braved the Raleigh traffic madness, and got settled in around 9pm. Friday morning proved to be breezy, rather chilly, and overcast, but with some help from a wise old trout fishing uncle we found a few hungry fish.

Happiness is a cold trout!

Lots of small, well fed specks in the mix

Finally managed to break the 3 week curse of the spike

not a beast but at least she went in the box!

This is how you beat the cold fingers!

Chester got the big fish of the day.........

Rob picked up a nice one with some really odd markings - we figured it swam down from the Raleigh area.

Ended the day early(we were cold!) with 32 total, 7 keepers.

Saturday started off with a bang, but all the trout were small, Rob managed this little drum which kept the box from being empty.

Sunday was warmer and again overcast ....... we put 6 keepers in the box out of 7 fish landed.
Not a massive haul for the weekend but plenty of fun!!

The technical stuff
Water temps on Friday ~ 58°
Winds 15 - 20 out of the north
Fished docks on a north bank with 6.5' to 7.5 of water
Same pattern for Saturday but water temp was ~ 54° and clear skies
Sunday light east winds, overcast, water temps inching below 53°
Fish were in 4.5' - 6.5' off creek bends with 7.5' - 9' very nearby.

Friday & Saturday MR17s in MG and 808 fished slow but still a little twitch & a pink fluke fished on the bottom produced.
Sunday the old green/chartreuse curlytail grub, fished with a slow steady retrieve was the winner.

Looks like you guys were in training for the Hot Hole meet. Nice to see you getting on the fish and getting some family time in.
Yeah Ted, but we actually caught some fish, unlike at the hot hole!

Which grubs do you use papadave...Im a mister twister man myself but always curious
Gotcha's are what I've been using down there. They're tough as nails. I buy the white Mr. Twisters by the hundred for Striper rigs up here on Buggs, the action is right much better.
