Oh yeah. It's really meant for a shop where they do a lot of reels and need the speed. I've seen that thing in use constantly for hours on end at Tex's Tackle when he has his mono line sales.

Lefty if you want to build one find an old sewing machine at a yard sale with a foot control and use that as power base

If I were gonna put a motor on it, that'd be a good idea. I was planning on using the reel's handle. I don't have as many reels as some of y'all -- I can spool my little-bitty reels much more easily than Dave can spool some of his monsters....

All I had in mind was a spindle to hold the line spool and a friction device of some kind... either a wingnut on the spindle or a finger to lean on the spool...
