Every time I toss the casting net I can catch three or so very small pompano.

Are they ever used for bait, and are they any good? or remain focused on finding schools of finger mullet?

Never knew they were good cobia bait. I'll have to try that one out and I'll let the guys on our pier know about it too. We usually don't even throw them in the tank, at most someone might use one live for flounder bait or as cutbait when there's not much else.

Think you are catching sand perch.----------------------------------------------------

Nope, I am always catching the seemingly scale-less minnow version of a pompano in the net.

Alright. I thought so because they are pretty thick in the surf. If it looks a lot like a pompano but isn't then maybe it could be baby jacks
