I hit the water today and had to put in at the ICW, because training was going on and it was a long paddle to my fishing grounds. Trolled the grass banks and was well rewarded for the effort. Ended up hitting a grand slam today, 9 Specks (between 16-23 inches) keeping 5 for the freezer, 3 flounder( between 13-20 inches) keeping 1, and 1 drum 25 inches.
Planning to Yak on Saturday morning and looking for company, let me know if you want to meet up.

Well i was trolling Mirror Lures about 20 ft behind me near the shore and grass line. i learned this technique when i was in Va Beach and Ny, we use to do it for stripers between the bridges where the boats couldn't get to and we would hook up all the time. i found that a slow, quiet paddle was really effective on the specks in the hot ditch in Va and thought why not try.....

I troll from my yak all the time. Mainly just toss out a popping cork and pay no attention to it. Catch alot like that actually. Maybe it is the bait and not my fishing abilities that catch the fish? It's not my fly throwing abilities, that's for sure. I am going to troll with my fly od, maybe I'll catch something on the fly rod then.

Throwing out some popping corks with about a 2 or 3 ft leader on it with either a gulp shrimp or a gulp grub works real well also. Find out which way the wind is blowing, go up wind and then let the wind just drift your boat or works good with the trolling motor on a low speed trolling along the grass edges or watch for your drop offs.:)
