Well, it's been a while since I've been here and even longer fishing & hunting unfortunately. I've never been in active combat (but have been in combat zones) but in the past 17 years in the Air Force has somehow beat me up. In the last 8 years I've had 2 shoulder surgeries, 2 back surgeries and a heart attack for a grand total of 9 surgeries. I just recently found out that I have avacsular necrosis in both hips along with a partial labral tear in my left hip and I'm looking a total hip replacement (THR) which will be at least 2 more surgeries. I'm only 36 yet I feel like I am 70. My wife and I welcomed our daughter to the world on 1 Febuary and now my biggest fear is that by the time she gets older I won't be able to be active with her like I want to be. It's a sinking feeling and many people just don't understand. There are days that my shoulder throbs or my back hurts so much that it takes all I can just to get out of bed or it feels like someone dumped a bucket of sand in my hips or my left hip will dislocate just from walking or getting in my truck. Most of the things I enjoy, I just can't do and the effect on my family is going to get worse as the years go by. I just needed to vent because I really only get to tell my wife and sometimes it takes too much of a toll on her.

Matt, I know this is a hard time for you. I too have been going through alot of pain and worry but I just have to trust that this will pass. And although the path I will take isn't the one I have chosen, it is what I have been given to work with and I will endure. Many turn to prayer, many look within for their strength or to those around them for that strength. I beleive it takes a little of it all sometimes to get by.
Being military I guess your dealing with military DRs? If there is any way to get second opinions outside the military you should seek them.
Start to probe deep into the work you have done, the genetics of your ancestors and any other outside factors that may have caused this to happen to you. You may find better answers and better treatments from pushing and doing your own research. But most of all, be patient with those who love you, be strong for those who need you, and most of all be strong for yourself...
You and your family are in my prayers....... If I can do anything let me know!...

Matt, Having gone thru months of back problems prior to surgery, I just don't know how some folks deal with chronic pain. Please know that you are in my prayers today. Your focus of concern on being there for your family is admirable. Do all you can but most important just be there for your daughter. She'll love you for it. ;)

It's from all that swimmin with bowel legged women in Thailand....:rolleyes::D:p

Just be carefull about becoming "dependant" on medication... Hopefully they'll hook ya up with a excellent specialist surgeon and some kick *** therapy. Hard road ahead though for sure... I had to learn how to walk again when I had shattered my right foot, but I was young then and healed up faster...

Prayers sent to Matt and his newly formed family! ;)

Thanks for all of the prayers, believe me I'll take any and all you can throw my way. Yea, I have to be careful to not get hooked on the percocets. Luckily (???) I rarely get them prescribed, but I can tell you that they do help with the pain which can be so unbearable that I can't sleep or even walk across a parking lot.

Hope things get straight and the pains lessen. Me my aches and pains are just starting good. US Army retired, 20 years with a parachute and a rucksack, running, jumping and bumbling thru the woods, fields, deserts and mountains. yep all that was cool when I was young now 54, and its taking its toll.

Now my shoulders,(just had one operated on) and my knees are hurting just to get up in the mornings, but i do it and go to work.

Thats how I use to hold my son, popped up on my belly:p best sleep they ever had

Tight lines <*)))))>{

Hey Matt, I think the guys above said it all. If you're willing to keep us informed of your progress, we're willing to listen, advise, commiserate, support and most assuredly pray. Might even sneak in a fish story or two for good measure.

As for the little one, I believe that kids know when you're giving them the best you can, so give her the best you can and she'll appreciate it.

HEY Man, sounds like you hit bottom and things are going get better from here on :). Been thru some stuff also (lower back from work and a car accident). Your little one (s), should be your driving force. As your well aware, some troops will not get to be with their loved ones.

Let me thank you for your service in the armed forces. Hopefully, the VA will pay most bills and give quality care and rehab.
They really do great work now on joints/hips/back repair. My 30yr.old nephew had a hip replacement and numerous screws/pins in his shoulder/arm. A few months down the road he was well on his way to "normal". With-in that year we went fishing down along a river that had some pretty good hills and creeks, and he was right with me all the time. I asked if his hip was hurting, and he said, you can't feel the pain... there aren't any nerves there. So that may be a good thing.
A good friend had lower spine surgery at 41 yrs. old. He now only wishes he had done it 10 years ago !
I just put in a good word for ya, to THE MAN in heaven.
