Lower Pungo

Has been absolute crap for the past month. No sign of trout, reds, or flounder. Plenty of really small bait fish schooled up along with some larger mullet up in the creeks, but no sign of any fish. Havnt seen nervous bait or bait getting busted yet this spring. All of our traditionally good spots havnt produced anything. Have talked to several other people every time I go out and they seem to be doing about as well. Maybe I just need to head further east/south and find some saltier water. Maybe the cold winter did some damage on the Pungo, who knows.

Anyone else experiencing the same in this area?

Got one keeper flounder in three hours of fishing on Sunday afternoon, that was the only bite. We stayed pretty close here around town, but it was still kinda depressing.

Not quite the same, but I hit bath creek on Monday and didn't catch a thing. Just a few missed gar strikes in about 4 hours.
Talked to Marine Fisheries officer while in Swan Quarter and he said the last 2 weeks have been dead.We caught about 20 croakers and 3 specks fishing sun up to sun down Saturday.

hope this helps, went fishing on sun near campbells creek and the ICW and caught 10 fish between 6 and 12 in the morning. Nice inshore slam, with a 21" striper, 16" speck, 17" flounder and 19" red drum. The other fish we caught were small flounder. Caught all the fish around points at the mouths of the creeks. Fished back in the creeks and the water was really stained and had no bites. Didnt see much bait, but had decent fishing. My father went fishing the same day in Pungo Creek and didnt have a single bite all morning. Really strange!
There has been alot of rain west and north and there has been alot of fresh water pushing through. If we can get a break from the rain runoff and get some good winds to push the salt back up a bit it's gonna explode! Bait is slow showing up this year too because of this.

Curtis, come on down any time!!
Yep, sounds like the fish are in/very close to the sound. We just havnt felt like burning the gas to get out there. I agree and think it might be to fresh in the Pungo right now, hopefully it lets up for a bit and the fish can move in.

Thanks for the replies, glad to know its not just me.

We had a slow day on swan quarter last week. 8 flounder (3 keepers) and a 20 inch puppy drum between the three of us. The short flounder were 13-14 inches. No pan fish size this trip. Wind picked up and we moved to Rose Bay. Nothing, nada, not even a crab nibble. Had a nice lunch in Bath.
