Enjoyed a day on the water with two Cherry Point Marines, Captain Craig Schappenger and Master Sgt Garry Taylor with the co Capain of Bobby Brewer using his boat as part of the MAD( (Military Appreciation Day) 9[SUP]th[/SUP] year event.
Great function put on by a great crew of volunteers – had around 100 boats this year.
Food was as great as the fellowship and fishing.
We had a good mess of small but legal Spanish for them to carry home and then found some menhaden to fill the bait well and went cobia fishing. Soon after set up a rod went off in hopes it being a cobia. Well, Capt Craig sure wished it was – after a very long struggle of strength and a little help from The Master Sgt (had Capts back) we managed to see the huge flat beast! No Cobe but a **** of a bent rod.
For those who thought about it an didn’t do it – get on board next year for the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] event – these guys deserve all we can give them and they really appreciate what we can – do it and u will see.
