The Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Habitat and Water Quality Committee will meet on Monday, September 19, at 2 p.m. at the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Washington Regional Office, located at 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC. The meeting may have to be cancelled due to the gas situation, pending notification from the governor’s office.

The subcommittee will discuss the three permit elevations (Tomaselli, Onslow County; Carolina Coast and Lakes, Perquimans County; Jim Owens, Currituck County). The subcommittee will also receive updates on several projects.

The committee will receive updates on the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan (CHPP). The MFC approved their CHPP implementation plan with the changes recommended by the committee.
The MFC priority for the CHPP implementation plan is strategic habitat. The MFC chairman established a Strategic Habitat (SHA) Scientific Advisory Committee. The SHA Committee has met once. The Habitat and Water Quality Committee will receive an update on the SHA Committee.
The committee will also be given updates on the sewage spill in Hewletts Creek, New Hanover County and will also receive an update on the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuarine Program (APNEP).

If you have any questions, please call Mike Street or Jess Hawkins at 800-682-2632 or 252-726-7021.
