I am calling on your oppinion's of Morehead City. A job opportunity has suddenly become a serious possibility. I have never been but I am sure that many of you have been.

I'm not just talking about the fishing opportunities but the good and bad about the town. What is the cost of living like down there? Is it like any other beaches that I may have more knowledge of?

What started as a process just to find a job has turned into a "unique" stress of which opportunity to take. I have received an offer from just about everyone I have interviewed with. I am looking for the right fit for me and my career.

I appreciate all of the help and support everyone provides on this site whether it be fishing or prayer requests.

Thanks for the help!

Congrat's on possible job opportunity! I'm right there with you here in a while myself as I too have a job op in/around Morehead.

I've been looking for something outside of the city and in a area where the flood zones are friendlier on insurance per information from Scott Wheeler down in Topsail. To the east of north a little from Jacksonville and to the east and south of the Base has some attractive propertys that have a little more "elbow room" if you dont like bein stacked up on your neighbors. I thought about Beaufort and Harkers area as well... but I'd rather be off the coast a bit and away from the flood areas, plus the closer you get to the coast/beach,, property values is considerably higher.

All depends on what you want/lookin for. As for the town Atlantic Bch/Morehead,, I dont think it has alot to offer and would rather live more outside the city and a little more ruraul and get a bit more property (bang for the buck).

Newport, Wildwood, Holly Springs are areas I've been lookin at.....

Hope all works out for ya and who knows... might have a fishin neighbor! ;) Good luck on the interview!

Around the triangle, if you move "a little more rural", you'll be full-fledged suburban in ten years. If you can pay rural prices and wind up suburban, that sounds like some serious bang for the ol' buck...

Definately the idea Lefty... ;) It's workin out pretty good here around Sanford.

Once they 4 laned 87 North out of Spring Lake, the area has really transformed, property values also went up. Hopefully when it's time for me to sell,, I may have a stab at buying a house at least an hour away from the coast instead of 2 hours away!! ha ha ha ha hah a...... (I keep inchin my way closer!! I figure by the time I do finally make it to the coast I'd of already expired or will shortly there after!!) :D ha ha hah a....

one thing I like about Washington. Prices are reasonable as long as your off the water. River here in town, 25 min to the Pungo (Belhaven) 40 min to New Bern, and about 1hr 20 min to Morehead/Beaufort. Pretty good location for fishing access without too bad of a haul and cheap real estate. Less flooding/hurricane issues.....

I hear ya Drop,,
My wife wants to move to Fla.. and maybe 5 years ago it was a consideration - especially if in the Panhandle area around Bay City or Apalachicola (LOVE fishin there!! groupah's 8 miles out and insight of the beach - makes for short runs and quickie fishin days!)

Then the thought of having to replace everything you own cause it got washed out to sea kinda blew the lamp light out on that idea... Now with the killer meteor supposed to hit in 2012 (according to ancient Inka predictions/calculations - yeah, I watch too much Discovery/History Channel) and the thought of the impending tsanumi that will make Fla a sandbar at best.... I think I'd rather take my chances livin in NC... at least I can "run" to the mnt's in 3 hours! ha ha haha hah....

Too bad I dont have a job op down south of where I'm at... South of Bladen Co., lot's of open land, farm land, pretty dang rural and still close enough to run on 76/74 to Wrightsville South Port....

Oh well... take what ya git when ya git it. Sure would stink too, havin to live closer to Sundrop and within whiffin distance of them lemon cakes bakin!!!:D

Thanks for the info. I hear ya, I want to own at least an acre of land and don't want to be able to touch my neighbors house from my property. I think that I will stay in Raleigh but I am keeping my options open.

Thanks again!
