Most Universal Multi-Species Lure? "Roadrunner Lure"

Got this in my email from in-fisherman. Says its one of the most universal and best "multi-species" lures out there. it's called the roadrunner. Have any of you used these? What do yall think is the best "multi-species" lure available to us? i mean for anything that sees it will bite it, i have also heard that panther martins and stuff like that are great for a big variety of species, thanks, attached is a pic of the "Roadrunner"

road runners are okay but if im using a small spinner im picking a johnsons beetle spin over that. catches the same species just as well in my experience. just picked up some weighted wobble head jigs and small zoom flukes at the expo, guy there told me he's used em for crappie, big bream, bass, caught catfish, redfish, trout, all kinds of stuff.

oh yeah, Roadrunners are absolute classic baits...
CLASSIC man how this thread has brought back so many great memories....My Granddaddy swore by these things!! He used to say "boy now this will catch fish, most of that junk in store is made to catch fisherman" ....then he would lean forward and spit a big chunk of red man golden blend in the river....

This is a good thread topic. Never used Road Runner much. I have caught a few fish on a Beetle Spin. One of my favorites is a Strike King Mini King. I like it because it is inexpensive, but catches a lot of fish. Caught my largest crappie on it. I've caught several species of fresh water fish on it, and wouldn't be suprised if it caught some salt water species. I have caught a couple of flounder on a Beetle Spin.

Most people us what they have confidence in, and that is most often the lure they were using in the beginning when they were catching a lot of fish on that particular lure. I mostly fly fish in fresh water now, so it has been a while since I've done enough spin fishing to use my favorite lure there.

... twitch baits like Fin-S on a jighead...

oh man, I have slayed the bass on a splitshot rig with a Fin-s fish, rigged much like you would with a 4" finesse worm. KILLER bait. Excellent in clear, cold, or pressured waters.

The very first time I tried a splitshot rig I caught a double-limit of bass and this was in January in Oklahoma(i.e. freakin' cold). (I grew up in OKC)

taking a different direction I'd say the Bass Pro Shops Lazer Blade (like a silver buddy) for game fish. I've caught largemouth, spots, smallies, hybrid stripers, stripers, white perch, white bass, crappie, and even some salt water fish on it like blues and flounder. Its small, heavy, and easy to fish. I've found that I can't go fishing without having some now. For schooling fish in the summer or early fall, its deadly because you can cast it a long ways, and it has that small profile of the baitfish. For the intercoastal waterway, its flashy and heavy so its ok to fish it in the current for blues, but I had NO idea that flounder would hit it! Caught 2 on it in one trip so I'll definitely be taking some with me to the coast every time now just to have something to chunk and wind. great thread, I still tie on a rooster tail when I just " want to catch something " in a new area.

I have caught all sorts of fish on the Roadrunner, and I just recently picked up some heavy ones in 1/2 oz that I've never seen before...looking forward to using them for stripers when the population recovers at Jordan.

My vote for best all around multi-species lure would have to be a curl-tail grub on a jig-head, closely followed by a 2" white or grey crankbait rated to run 3-5 feet deep. If I had to fish with only one or two lures, those would be it for me.
