Just a quick note to let ya'll know what's going on in the mountains....
Smallies... the top water bite has slowed some over the past week but in the deeper areas we're still hooking into some above average size fish! For the most part white streamers on the fly rod and finesse worms on hardward have been doing the trick!
Trout... well Delayed Harvest streams are stocked and full of fish, some **** big fish also. Have spent 4 days guiding on DH streams since Saturday and have had 30+ fish all four days. Not too bad for the beginning of the DH season. Wild trout have also been very active, worked on two wild streams last week and had good results. Client landed a 16" wild brown last Monday, this fish absolutly killed a size 14 Blue Wing Olive fly. The tailraces in eastern TN (Watauga and Holston) have also been fishing fairly well with lots of top water action... oops sorry that's not in NC! Catawba River tailrace below Lake James is starting to get back into the swing of things since summer has ended.... caught some really nice browns there two weeks ago swinging big nasty articulated streamers in the tailouts and just below the rapids.
That's about it from the hills of NC! It's been a few weeks since I had a chance to stop by NC Angler, I'll try to send some reports in from time to time.
Sounds like the fall patterns are starting to come in. You are fishing alot of water that I fish. Keep the reports coming and maybe sometime I'll see you on the water.
