I'm going to be leaving Chattanooga on Saturday evening working my way back to Fayetteville. I need some advice on a place to stop for a few hours that's not to far off the main drag. I was thinking about taking Hwy 64 over the mountians to 26. Is there any productive water near Hwy 64?

if you flyfish, try fires creek, when you hit murphy, you will want to follow the signs to franklin then just look for the fires creek campground signs, or ask somebody. but, to tell you the truth, this 3 day downpour we are having will probably ruin most of the trout fishing. if you go through the cullasaja gorge, stop and give it a try , the water is tinged like something you would find in a blackwater swamp, but they stock it. for some hike in try the chatooga, just be careful where you start, ga,sc and nc all have water on the river and nc has no agreements with either state. fires creek has 15 miles of stream on forest service land, so there is no crowding, it's my favorite in that area. Just keep a lookout for forest service signs while you drive, 64 goes in and out of forest service land
