My son and I made our annual pilgrimage to target old drum. Days were cut short by wind and t-storms, but any day fishing with my son is a good one. We even managed to get a few drum to the boat in between feeding the bait stealers and rays.

Glad to see someone was catching them last weekend! My dad and I tried from kayaks launching out of Oriental. About 11:30 or so on Saturday the wind kicked up something fierce in a short period of time and we had 2-3' waves busting over our yaks. We had to stop after only about 2 hours of fishing and no drum.
I am kicking myself a little though, because I was originally going to fish up around Gum Thicket and the mouth of Broad Cr. but then changed my mind. Apparently it was the wrong decision!

Those are some great fish. Drum are easily one of the best fighting fish that I've caught. Old drum are definitely on my fishing bucket list. I may try for them for the first time next weekend while I'm in the area as long as their still there. My uncle lives about 40 minutes away from Oriental so it wouldn't be too bad of a drive.
