Yesterday I proved to my satisfaction that the shad run is over in the Neuse River. Had fun anyway, as the river is in beautiful shape. I fished near the Milburnie Rapids (I love writing that) with #4 chartreuse Clousers and a 5wt sinktip. Caught a bunch of aggressive small crappie and bluegills porpoising for emerging mayflies in the central river riffles.
Moved into a side channel and landed my first bowfin by dangling a fly I tied for Alaska coho, of all things.
