I am stationed in Goldsboro NC and originally from Florida. We do not have Striped Bass where I come from and have been trying to catch one for the last couple years. I am being reassigned soon and was hoping to catch at least one Striper before I left, I saw another post about Stripers picking up around New Bern and was wondering if this is a good time of year for Stripers in New Bern. If you guys know of somewhere to catch one of these suckers before I leave I would appreciate the help. Also, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Dave, are you specifically interested in catching striper at the coast or would freshwater striper from say Jordan Lake work too?

I am good with where ever, I just would like to hook up on a couple. I have been here for a couple years now and for some reason have had issues with the Striper.

Don't know much about striper fishing, but thought I'd take the opportunity to thank you for your service to our country.

Grizz-I haven't had great luck lately (lost one last week, haven't been out since) but know some who have. The big bridge and railroad tressle are good spots in the New Bern Area. the recent rain and influx of fresh water may help the fishing (?) at least I hope so. Your best bet is early morning or evening from my experience. If you can find a calm day, cast some zara spooks around the pilings and hang on. I have caught them trolling slowly with a bucktial jig and plastic tail too. There are a few trout around as well, so with some luck you should be able to find something worth catching.
