Hi, I am an avid catfisherman and will be moving to Ft. Bragg the begining of September. I am looking for some good cat water to fish on. I am also looking for a new partner and want to find some tournaments to fish. I am moving from Newport News, VA where I have been fishing James River Catfish Club tournaments for 2 years now and have been fishing the Bass Pro Shops Big Cat Quest for the same. I have a 20 ft SeaArk River Cat that I have tweeked-out for catfishing and will be needing to do some catfishing not long after I get there. Any help in a general area to fish and what do ya'll use for bait down here and where and how can I get some (gizzard or threadfin shad, cast net or gill net; bream). Thanks.

The Cape Fear river is probably one of the best spots in the state to go. The State record Flathead came from these waters and the Blue cats are in record territory. I'm sure that Roblatta wouldn't mind that trip. I know that he has been wanting to do some serious catfishing.

Welcome Wiskersticker! I have been looking at those SeaArk boats and I really like them. I like the v-hulls. I rode up to the dealer in Burlington and looked at them. What design do you have?

I have a 20 ft SeaArk River Cat that I special ordered. I have only had it since April. I put a Evinrude E-TEC 115 Salt Water Edition on to push it. It does pretty good, I can run about 45 mph GPS.

Welcome aboard Whiskersticker. You will be in good cat territory at Bragg. There are some other good rivers to fish besides the Cape Fear, But the cape fear would get the nod in most respects. The Lumber is a good option and fairly close. Black River and the N.E. Cape Fear are other good options.

Ya'll sound great, I'll be looking forward to meeting and fishing with you. I'm looking for a new fishing partner to fish the local tournaments also. Looks like they do a lot of lake and res. fishing during the local tournaments series' down there. I can lake fish, but I prefer river fishing. I do a lot of drift fishing here and do pretty well especially when the tide turns and is slack here on the James River. Anyway, I will get back with you all when I get down there and get my feet on the ground. I already have a house bought in Sanford, I close on 4 Sep and will be moving in on the same day.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Dave---You probably need to put that lunch pail in a five gal. bucket and fill it with concrete before you bury it.--maybe over on Marty's property.:)

Hey Whiskers,
Welcome to the site and the great state of NC. I used to fish with my step father-in-law on the James right there in Richmond for stripers before he passed away. It was fun but usually hot weather. My buddy loves catfishing and has caught some in the 45-60 lb. range in the cape fear. Good luck on your ventures.
