Im fairly new to North Carolina. Live in Fayetteville. Was wandering where there is good saltwater fishing. Went to Kure Beach this weekend, but there are just too many people there. Also there any saltwater inshore fishing for someone without a boat?

Thanks,

ksbeb,

Welcome to NC and NC Angler.

Here's three suggestions on Topsail Island, Hopefully other members will have some more suggestions for you also. Try the point at New River Inlet on the north end Topsail Island for some inshore from shore fishing. Or the municipal pier in Surf City's "Soundside Park", just across the bridge on the right. Another option would be the southern end of Topsail Island - there is a nice stretch of beach on the back side as well as the channel behind the island.

One other consideration is to rent a kayak in Surf City and paddle the marshes near there.

Things will slow a little at the beach over the next 2-3 weeks. All the kids are starting school so alot of travelers will be going home. I had to go to Fayetteville from Greenville Saturday and tourist were bumper to bumper on I-95!! And dont knock fishing in the Cape Fear river as well...great Catfights!

If you're into surf fishing, it's hard to beat Hatteras, unless you're really averse to crowds, or don't have a 4x4. It's a bit of a haul compared to other coastal locations, though -- you've either gotta take the ferry up to the south end of the island, or make it up to US64 at Manteo and drive down. Takes between 4 and 5 hrs from the Raleigh area. I had some friends take the ferry route many years ago, again from the Raleigh area, and wound up with a 10-11 hour journey. Not sure if they just hit a bad day, or what...

Welcome to our beautiful state

Did you try FT. Fisher Just south of Kure Beach? There is usually some pretty good surf fishing in that area. I am not familiar with the sound there but I understand it's a pretty good area to fish also. Being that close I would reccomend looking into Kayak fishing. AL

Welcome.
I highly recommend Hatteras and if you just head up 95 from your place then cross over to Nags Head on 64 it will not be too much of a drive. Just turn right at Nags Head and go south until you reach Avon, Buxton or Frisco. Those are my familie's favorite surf fishing beaches. Best time of the year is anytime in October-November and then in April-May. There's no tellin what you may catch in those "good fishing" months.

I drive in from Monroe, NC to Avon in about 7 1/2 hours. I wouldn't think of fishing anywhere else these days although I did have some great nights fishing Kure beach pier back in the late 80's in October.
