Just like riding a bike. Get used to it and it'll become as natural as fishing from the bank.
Yea been out to lake Norman and Belews lake the last two weekends gonna put it in the Yadkin river this weekend.

Good luck...looking forward to seeing pictures and a trip report!
Old 421 may not be your best choice.... You have a LONG ride to the next take out down stream (16 miles?) (near Tanglewood), and you have a dam a 1/4 mile upstream, so you can't paddle very far that direction. And, of course, don't miss the take out at Tanglewood or you get Idols dam next on your menu.

If you're looking for a paddle upstream/float back scenario, try Renyolda Road bridge at Donnaha. Nice put in. I've been meaning to try that one, and have scouted it from the shore.

I was looking at a map of the river biglenr and it says 5.5 miles down river there is another take out. But is never thought of going up river first and then floating down great idea man. How is the bass fishing in the donnaha part of the river.

The downstream take out which is 5.5 miles is essentially unusable to me, no true access, just very steep mud banks and a parking area that requires 4wd.... Scout it before you float it.

I haven't fished Donnaha yet.... I will eventually, but I'm a new kayaker, and my confidence in my skills idoesn't allow me to try moving water yet. But I research the heck out of things before I do them....
