hammerhead--- Hearty welcome! One of my buds from NY many years ago attended UNC-- never went back and he didn't even fish. I don't fish the Bogue, but look for marsh creeks entering channels or deep water. All else fails use your binocs and cheat a little bit( watch who's catching from a distance):D

Hammerhead,
First of all, welcome aboard. I grew up on bogue sound, and when I wasn't chasing Seabiscuit's daughter (finally caught her :) and by far she's been my best catch to date!), I was in the sound or on White Oak River/Pettiford Creek. I haven't fished the sound in several years, but I talked to a buddy a few days ago that has been fishing in the area. Just about any local can and will direct you to the old cape carteret ferry docks if you ask. I understand they've been biting pretty good around the outside pylons. If that doesn't work, there are some deep holes on the cedar point side/emerald isle end of the bridge that has always produced fish. Good luck and watch the sandbars, they've claimed a few yankee props! (sorry, I had to get the yankee thing in at least once :D )

Welcome aboard Hammerhead!

I don't fish very often up your way but some buddies of mine tell me that they are catching trout at a place called the "Haystacks" near the Morehead/Beaufort bridge. Here's a link to a post from some of our other members on how to find the haystacks. http://www.ncangler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=507

Look for the deep holes and for places with tidal currents (like where a marsh ditch enters the channel).

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Welcome

As a family that just here from NY I can tell you that you made a great choice. We have been coming here for 15 years on vacation and lat year decided to stay. Just getting into the fishing scene and really cant help too much. I can say that over the past 15 years offshore fishing seems to have gotten worse every year. The gulfstream still seems pretty good but the banks seem to be fading. Still, a bad day fishing beats anything else I can think of. Good luck
