Dave - I been working that area pretty heavily lately. If you are interested in LAND to build on I can give you some great ideas of places to look - I also give you some ideas if you are looking for new construction in that area. If so, give me a call - you know the number.
Rog, thanx guys.

Mike, Probably gonna look for pre-existing, maybe even a VA repo or Forclosure type home (like the one I'm in now), buy cheap - fix a little.

Will need to get most bang for the buck, especially with 3 kids now.... :) Probably no less than a 1.5 acre yard, 4 bed minimum, 2 1/2 bth ... yadda yadda...

Any good rural farm area around there?
John Vesco Reality seems to have a good feel for the area. There's plenty of open land but the owners want premium price especially along Hwy. 70.

there is plenty of stuff available in newport back off of 70 in both directions.. howeve ryou are going to pay through the nose for it. Lots of "retirement' and lost of folks like you that want to be here... i've been looking for a 3-5 acre block to build on for two years.. can't find one for under 200k that is worth having..
Did have one guy try to sell me 9 acres for 75K... when I looked at it he showed up with a canoe to show it to me :(
Google earth and explore man.. you'll have to drive the roads to get a feel for where you wan to be.
when you finally get here, I am 5 mins up the road in Havelock... we'll sink some bait together :)

Dave, if your willing to go more to the north and east you can find some deals. There is lots of developed land but not built - like hundreds of lots - that's why I asked about building. On the other hand the same area has some farms and older homes available too.

Newport south has pressure from the retiree's, Newport to the north has pressure from the all the new marines coming to Cherry Point.

So look north and east but stay on the interior and away from CP - you'll find something. If I see something in my travels (I'm there at least once a week) I'll let you know.
I just love the long distance real estate looking.

Before I retired from the Army I spend a lot of time and effort going here, there, everywhere looking for a 5-10 acre plot. I wanted it a lest 1 acre clear and the rest in woods.

Talk about the run around, most realtors were helpful but still showed a lof of swamp land.

Good luck and tight lines <*))))))>{

We're pretty flexible Mike, Newport is just the start.. I plan to drive the area like Rye mentioned. I've probably been thru there 100 times, but it's different when you start lookin for a place to live. We definately want to be in a No/low flood area, away from the water a bit and as rural as possible and somewhat near either 24 or 70.

somethin like this would be good:
Property Details for 2012 Watson Ave Newport NC 28570 : 11172430

Wife sure liked the thought of the hot tub...

Work will be on Hankison Dr. Newport NC, So.. I'm thinkin anything within a 20-30 minute drive of work should be worth checking out.

This one here aint too bad neither.. small garage though.. I noticed alot in that area have single's. A double with a bonus room would be the ticket.. though this one's pretty nice just by lookin at it:

Thanx guys! I've got some time to check out areas and no rush so that helps for sure.
