RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 22) - The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting nominations through March 30 for the second annual Thomas L. Quay Wildlife Diversity Award.

The award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions to wildlife diversity conservation in the state. Presentation of the award will take place during the July meeting of the Wildlife Resources Commission.

The award is named for a retired professor of zoology at N.C. State University, Dr. Thomas L. Quay, an internationally respected ornithologist whose influence fostered and inspired generations of wildlife biologists. In 1994, Quay was inducted into the N.C. Wildlife Federation's Conservation Hall of Fame.

Fittingly, Quay was the first recipient of the award named in his honor, in July 2006.

The Wildlife Resources Commission's Nongame Wildlife Advisory Committee will recommend a winner to the commissioners from nominations received by the March 30 deadline. Nomination forms are available at or by calling (919) 707-0050.

The award recognition includes a walnut plaque engraved with the winner's name.
