I know that it is not NC but I have to go to the Norfolk area on business for a meeting on Monday and Tuesday. I am thinking about heading up this Sunday with a couple of rods to see what I can find.
Has anyone had any experience up there? Any advice on good spots?

Thanks,
Mark

It has been a long, long time but when I was in the Navy I use to live and fish on a stretch of beach called Willoughby Spit - it separates the water between the inner harbor and the main bay. It is also near the bridge/tunnel going to Newport News - I think it's the Hampton Roads bridge/tunnel. We would catch your typical garden variety og bottom fish there - flounder, croakers, etc.

Thanks Mike!

There seems to be a few decent looking piers around the bridges and tunnels. I might give one of them a shot.

As far as piers go starting nearer the nc va line is Sandbridge pier. (it is an ocean pier) Then in Va. beach you have Va beach pier (another ocean pier) then around the corner in Chesapeake Bay you have Lynnhaven Pier. Out on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge /Tunnel you have Seagull Pier Maybe one or two more and then Cityview pier out on Willoughby Spit. Up James River aways (I think?) Hobucken Pier (famous for cobia). I lived out on "the spit" about the same time as TA so my memory has a couple of holes in it . I'll try to get you some reports.

Mark it seems like the croakers are everywhere up there right nowespecially Rudee Inlet. There have been a few cobia caught some at Sandbridge and some in the bay.
A couple of keeper flounder here and there but like most places 90% are too small. A handfull of spanish have been caught off th VA. beach pier. I couldn't find any mention of more than one trout per trip. No single place stood out as the place to be however one report was about catching 4 small cobia off the end of the old grandview pier from a boat. Only 2 were keepers. If I remember right Grandview was at the end of Grand ave. And Buckroe isn't up James river but over at Hampton.

Thanks sinker man! I saw a pretty good report about the James River Pier. It is somewhere near Newport News. Lynnhaven and VA Beach piers looked interesting but I hear they are very crowded this time of the year. I might just end up doing some surf fishing. Hopefully I might have time to get some advice at a local tackle shop.
