Went to the Banks for a few days last week and caught fish despite the record high temps, grass, and sauerkraut bryozoan. Caught pompano in the 1 lb. range on cut shrimp. Mole crabs were plentiful and the size of a quarter but never caught the first fish using them. Caught a few small sea mullet and blues in the 1 to 2 lb. range and some short flounder. One red was caught on cut mullet, a fat 24 incher and only saw two other reds brought in while there. My friends are still there and say the fishing is still the same; hot, windy, wet and grassy. Man those pompano sure were good eating!

Great Report - Making a sucide trip to either surf fish Fort Fisher or the North End of Carolina Beach, never fished there before, the wind is calling for at North wind about 14 mph. Is that a good omen for there?

The fishing around Southport picked up with the NE wind this month. The finger mullet also arrived in force around the same time so that may have been the main factor behind the good fishing. Hear tell the Rocks at Fort Fisher hold nice flounder on the Oct. full moon. Good luck and let us know how you do.
