My dad is coming into the area towards the end of September. Last year I was able to put him on a few slot drum, and he's itching to get at it again. I think it would be cool to go after some old drum though. A guide will probably be our best bet because of limited time and I've never fished for them either.

Who can you recommend? Willing to go wherever need be.

I would just go. It is truly simple to soak bait all you need is Owen Lupton Rigs to be legal. Tons of info readily available on here.

But as far as guides, I got nothing.

Gary Dubriel of Spec Fever Guide Service www.specfever.com or Dave Stewart of Knee Deep Charters (Minnesott Beach Bait and Tackle) http://www.pamlicotackle.com/charter/ . Both work that area all year long. If you are planning on hiring a guide you need to get the dates down pat and call them. They fill up there days quickly with others chasing bull reds.
