Does anybody have any luck on the old drum in the neuse around Havelock? Or do I need to go more downriver to Oriental or Cedar Island?

It seems like they are around in the river but not in huge numbers.

Depends on what you define as "around" Havelock. If it were me, I'd get a little closer to Oriental....

I have never targeted them past Adams Creek, but its possible they do go that far. Most of the guys that chase bull reds do so from Adams Creek down to Cedar Island. Lot of water to cover so lots of room for people. Take that with the north and south side of the river also.

Break out he popping corks or cut bait and let the good times roll. Let us know how you do.

I plan to go over and try around Oriental this weekend, but during the week I only have enough time to get where Hancock dumps into the neuse
Ride down to the ferry. Give you a little better chance

Depends on how many rods you're using, how bad the bait stealers are and how fresh the mullet is... Using 4 rods, for 4 hours during daylight I would carry 15 pounds.

and check your hooks every 15 minutes in daylight hours or you will be "wishing fishing".. Pinfish strip a hook like piranha. Ironically all mu mullet lines were ignored last weekend and both drum hit my fresh jumbo shrimp on jigheads I was casting around and slow retrieving while I waited.. Mullet only caught rays..
