This may be a stupid question... But how far up the Pamlico River do the Specs come. Do I really have to drive all the way to Aurora, Campbells Creek or the Pungo areas just to start finding the trout?
Right now yeah you do. In the winter there will be some all the way to Washington. But now your best bet is the mouth of the river area. If your not stuck on trout you can find reds and flounder nearer Washington once it gets warmer but even then not in the numbers that you'll find in the saltier waters.
and has a lot to do with how much rainfall, wind direction etc and how it effects salinity. As you go farther downriver of course you get more consistent..
Given the amount of rain this week, I suspect they will be pushed further east. . . bummer. Sundrop - any water clarity reports? How muddy is it out in Washington?
Took a better look this afternoon at the bridge and the ramps in Washington and its shaped up pretty nicely as long as tonight's rains are light. Still, keep it east for best results...
