Me and my brother in law took the kayaks to a creek near new bern today and caught one yellow perch, several bluegill, one nice chain pickerel, and found a school of suspended crappie in 25 foot of water and caught probably 15. The water clarity was good and the water temp was 41 to 43. Fun day! Everything was caught on shrimp.

Nope. Smaller than finger nail size pieces of previously frozen shrimp.

Fishing would have been slow today without a fishfinder. Here is a pic of the school. The finder is reading the depth off the school. You can see the true depth is over 25.

Very nice! I am going to try to pry a few panfish out of the upper Neuse tomorrow. I am leaving my fish finder at home; they are only releasing 200 cfs right now. I will be floating in 1' - 4' and casting over into 4' - 10'. I really want to try some of the side creeks down that way sometime. I love those backwater paddles.

How big were the crappies?

They were smallish. 8 inch average maybe. I think 1 might have been 11.

man hit that area with bucket of minnow and jigs and I bet there are some slabs hanging in there!!
