For ultralight tackle try luremaker's suggestion plus a red #2 Worden's Roostertail with a gold blade. Roostertails tend to not spin if the wire is not good and straight but you can restraighten them if they get bent. Mepps will hold up better but my experience the Roostertail will catch slightly more but that is in no way scientific and probably dependant on which one you are most comfortable with. I agree with Lou that they bite better in cool weather but I have caught them in the dead of summer in blackwater creeks. I've never targeted them in the lakes, but nearly all my lake catches were in winter/early spring. I've never caught one on a fly rod but I imagine it would be a blast. AL
