Welcome aboard Frank. Yaupon is indeed at risk. The city has made a bid on it supposedly, but only time will tell the outcome. Oceancrest and Yaupon have been pretty good king fishing piers and both catch their share of other species.
As for surf fishing the beaches The spots change as the bottom is predominately loose sand and the ridges or bars and the valleys or sloughs change with the weather and related currents. Normally if you haven't got a clue where to start you will be a step ahead to try the inlet areas. Flounder fishing is good around most inlets in southern NC. The Cape Fear River seems to produce some trophies every year as well as most of the inlets.
