I'm sure Mo will appreciate everyone's inputs here. It is good to get eveyone's opinions so a M&G can meet everyone's expectations as well as can be done. Jan/Feb can be difficult to plan a day where the weather will cooperate with us, but there is fishing that can be done in the river, or in the surrounding ponds. There is a couple of ponds that have piers. One is a small pier, and the other pond has a medium size pier. Maybe that would satisfy the fishing bug for those who would like to add some fishing. I think Mo was wanting to have some time to browse around Neuse Sport Shop to maybe buy up some equipment for this coming years fishing. Mo was thinking that since Kinston would be a long trip for some of the Red Xers to travel, it would be nice to have time to get to know each other, and have a little time to get over to NSS for some shopping. That would leave enough time for the ones who have a ong way to travel to get back home at a decent time, and not have an overnight stay. Hopefully, we can come up with something that everyone will like. If we get the inside building, the cost there is $120 for 4 hours. Not sure if that time can be played with. Not sure if it is for mornings, and afrternoons. Didn't ask that question. There is also a large open shelter there, but we don't know how cold or windy it may be. Once we see what Mo thinks about all this, and get more of everyone's opinions, I will check further into this. Scott has a good idea on selecting a date.
Mo, let us know what you are thinking about all this. The outdoor shelter there could be used for the mini cook off that TFF suggested, and to just meetr there instead of the inside building. I will check on the cost of using the shelter also, and get some ideas on what can be done there. If the number of Red X ers is low for this, we may not want to divvy up on the $120.
Just for info, the place where we are talking about is the Nature center, and RV park. The Neuseway Park is across the 11/55, King Street Bridge more inside Kinston. They are just across the River from each other. If I am wrong about this, someone please correct me. Not sure if the entire area is considered Neuseway Park. The Natuire center has a train for kids. Slow is too big for it. It also has a planetarium, as well as a building for wildlife exibits. There are 3 ponds there, a bit scattered, but not far at all from the RV Park. It is right on the Neuse River. There is also another pond that is fairly close that is at the dog park. It has a sort of rough road that goes around it. There is actually 2 ponds there, but the 1st is really overgrown with plant life. Back pond was clear the last time I saw it a few months ago. Allen Peyton caught a fairly nice crappie out of there. Not a good place for me to fly fish there. I've already decorated it for Christmas. Allen does well there. Fly fishing can still be done. There are some openings that will accomodate your lines, unless you cast like me.
