Power drive trolling motor woes.

I have a 2006 70# 12v Minn Kota bow mounted trolling motor. I was out fishing the other day and using the trolling motor, when all of a sudden it just stopped working. I checked the plug where it plugs into the socket and it was hot to the touch, and some of the female end plastic had melted. I replaced the plug with a new one, checked in the console but could not find any in line fuses of breakers. Long story short the motor doesnt seem to be getting power, the battery test light wont even come on. Anyone have any suggestions?v

Pull off the covers, unplug the control board and try putting 12v to the steering motor and the lower unit separately (and of course look for burned connections while you're in there). There ain't much to it once you get the 2 side covers and front cover off. It's either the control board or one of the motors, you'll find out by putting power to 'em. If both motors run independently it's the control board. Control board is a simple and fairly inexpensive fix. Either of the motors will be more involved and costly. I think Brenardo has figured out the rebuild process, shoot him a pm he might be able to shed more light.

Sounds like it shorted out and because it wasn't fuse protected, the whole thing fried.
Do you have power at the plug? In my boat the breakers for the trolling motor are little boxes on the terminal where it fits on the battery post.

I will run through and check all these things. Unfortunately, I just picked up the boat May 1st, and this would be the first thing that's gone wrong. Worst thing that comes out of this is I get to upgrade to a co pilot, (I've had my eye on one anyway). Bust out another thousand! Thanks for your help.

BTW, make sure you have the Minn Kota support # in your contacts. I've called 'em several times while on the water. Only once got a rep who was less than enthused.
