Quantum PT AC20 PTI & Ugly Stik 6'6 Lite: What kind of set up would this be any good for?

2536 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  1906Angler
Hey hope this question is right for this section,

I got a Quantum PT Accurist AC 20 and an Ugly Stik Lite 6'6 medium action rod
for my birthday. They were gifts so I can't return them. Anybody got any ideas
on what this setup would be good for? Crappie, bluegill, panfish, small bass, etc?
I wanna take it back but again, I would not hear the end of it if I do.
Any advice is good. Thinking about putting some Hi Vis suffix 6lb test on it using it
for a slip bobber setup or fishing it with grups and tubes. Thanks

After seeing what they paid for the rod and reel, my mind is thinking "Penn Fierce 2000 or 3000"
for what they paid for them. The Quantum reel has real good reviews though and the Ugly Stik won't break easy.
I'm thinking I could probably get a nicer setup with what was paid. But I gotta be nice. But I am sure thinking it
I had a pair of accurist pt 20's a few years back and they landed several drum, trout, flounder, and stripers. I had it rigged with 10 pound power pro. It cast really well and the drag was far superior to that of a penn fierce. This coming from a die hard Shimano guy, they aren't or at least back then weren't bad reels. I would still have them but someone else liked them more than me and stole them out of my boat.
After thinking about this more, my reels were Catalyst 20's.
A gift is a gift. If you don't want it I'll take it lol. I don't see anything wrong with that setup. Seems it would be best suited for fish in the 12 to 24 inch range. I would say its a little heavy for panfish tho. You would have more fun on bluegill and crappie with a lighter action rod.
I'd spool with 8 lb or similar diameter braid. That outfit would make a good bass rod for things like flukes, senkos, shakey heads, even small cranks or jerkbaits. You don't need a med-heavy or heavy action to bass fish.

I have a few of those rods, they are a good all around rod for bass fishing, especially crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater plugs. I fished 10-14 lb mono on mine. I caught many bass up to 7 or 8 lbs and alot of stripers too. I would be careful with braid though, over time my guides on those rod developed cuts from the line, that would be more likely to happen using braid.

Thanks everyone!

I took the ugly stik back and got an 8ft B&M rod and put hi vis yellow 6lb test on the accurist.
I have been hitting everything with a white grub on a 1/64th to 1/32nd jig jusing scented rub.
I've hit crappies at Oak Hollow, I've hit all kinds of bass at Tanglewood. Local fishing hole near Hanes Mall
I've hit all kinds of bass again. Thanks again
