Question on trout fishing July 4th

Hey everyone! I would like to do some trout fishing Saturday, July 4th. I plan on making a day trip from Charlotte. I was thinking about going to Wilson Creek and those surrounding streams as I am somewhat familiar with the area; however, I was wondering if Wilson Creek itself would be worth fishing this time of year with all the bait fisherman being out in full force the past month. If not Wilson Creek, would anyone be willing to make a suggestion of another place that might be worth my while for a full day of fishing? Thanks in advance!

i remember i made that same mistake about 2-3 years ago on july 4th, took off towards the mountains, headed to wilson creek for first time ever, and man it was beautiful, BUT every nice looking pool i came to there were a ton of people everywhere swimming. WAYYYYYY to many people for me especially trying to fish. maybe you know some places to get away, i hope so cause there will without a doubt be a ton of people there

Had not thought about the swimmers!
With proper cooking and the right sauce, anything that swims can taste good:eek:

Put some foot work in. That's the only sure fire way to get away from the crowd. Any easy water to get to is going to be pounded to death. Also, getting to the water super early is key. I try and arrive, have my gear together and be fishing around daylight. Of course this takes some dedication, especially if you have somewhat of a drive in front of you. But, the early bird gets the trouts.

Use the info on the NCWRC fishing access map, move it to Goggle map and make a plan for fishing spots in a big loop, start early, hit as many spots as you can work in, and move on to the next one if you don't find fish. Or if your in the shape to do it, tyr Wademasters suggestion and hit the water and just keep hiking in to the woods. The thing about fishing HS this time of years is to keep searching for fish, and finding an overlooked spot that has not been hammered.

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/fee-fishing-areas/ May be your best bet for catching but it will be crowded too. Trophy fish will be stocked the week before the fourth.
Thanks for the advice guys! Ill have to give a report next weekend.
