Now that's a bucket mouth.
Walking in umstead away from the big open areas will yield more fish since most folks won’t walk that far to explore all the various coves etc. the bass are smart they hang in those logs and lay down perfect cover to attack and great way to get away from a hookset!Hi RyK, same to you, nice fish on your other post. In my experience, the bigger (not huge) bass in the umstead lakes are holding really tight to lay-downs... really tight. What I like about the weedless wacky rig, and also the weightless texas rigged, senko is that you can almost cast on the timber, and let the worm fall down. I wish there were more lakes around Raleigh for bank fishing. This might be in my head, but at umstead I generally have better luck if I hike as far as possible away from the easy access spots.
