Ready To Jump into Kayak Fishing

A buddy of mine took me Kayak fishing around Swansboro this Fall. Needless to say I caught the bug. I think I've decided to get a ride 135 though I've found a native redfish 12 for about half the price. I'll be fishing around New Bern and Swansboro. I am 6'1 and about 260lbs. I would be appreciative of any advice or opinions yall could give me, thanks.

Check the suggeted weight limits for the yaks you're considering...add weight for tackle, anchor, cooler etc. and make sure the capacity of the yak is more than adequate...and that the seat and leg room are comfortable and work for you. I don't know the specs for either of the two you mentioned...but would lean toward the Ride...

Jbafishing, Will do. New Bern will be where I do the majority of my trips. Is the ramp at riverbend private? Anyone else have any suggestions on yaks before I pull the trigger on a ride 135?
Ride 135 is a great kayak. Go for it. Lots of seat options and rudder capable. I recommend. The added 1.5ft will make a huge Difference if your ever paddling in current especially in swansboro.

I was at GOP yesterday and saw the Ride 11.5. Must say that seat looked comfortable. I'm also out of NB and am off a lot so when ever you wanna go just shout
The ramp in Riverbend is five dollars

During the summer I mostly fish saltwater around Havelock Morehead city
Looks like we are getting a good group of guys local. Seems like most of the yak fishers are in the mountains, Raleigh or Wilmington area
I've only heard good things about the ride135. I used to fish more head a lot but the last few years swansboro and Emerald Isle have been giving me better luck.
I have a Malibu stealth 12 and I love it. No issues
Jbafishing, how did you do in Riverbend? You fishing from a red boat? If so I think I saw you by the docks as I was driving bye
Yep sure was I only got 1 but didn't fish long and I am new to fishing that area.
Another New Bern kayak fisherman here. Only fished River Bend once and caught several decent bream in the short time I fished. Fish Swift Creek and Brices Creek mostly for freshwater. Spent a lot of time near Swansboro and Beaufort this past summer for flounder and trout. Itching to try the quarries in Maysville for some crappie some day.

Muddy Water. I was wanting to hit that spot too. Maybe we can get a group together in the next few weeks and go. I thinks it's only $5 to fish it. Would cost the same to launch at a ramp

The rock quarries are closed. The gentleman passed away a few years ago
Not to start an argument but there was a guy just post a report from there about 2 weeks ago. I'll see if I can find it
Oh ok. They might have re-opened. I just know they had been closed last few years.
Yep, they re-opened a while back. My next two weekends are full up. Maybe after that we can work something out.
