Went to Weldon Thursday with the kids and dad we caught 50+, the kids had a blast . We tried further down river to see if there were any larger, but all seemed to be around 15-17 inch range. We did mange one 21" fish. Fun day to watch the kids fish and my oldest (10) do pretty much everything himself.

On Friday I took a friend and his son (first time striper fishing) along with my oldest. We caught 100 with only 3 keepers and 2 catfish. We still fished further down river near the fish camp. They had fun think I might have got the dad hooked on striper.

River is still pretty high the rapids and big rock are under water and the current is moving at a pretty good pace. Used 2-3 oz to keep bait on the bottom. I think the key for us was close to the bank finding water with a little less current.

I'm interested in making my first trip down to Weldon in about 2 weeks !!! I have a 17 1/2 ft bass boat with a 150 ! What's the water level like in the river , as far as depth and me running that boat in the river ? Or will I need to have a boat that runs in shallow water ?

You'll be fine. There was offshore boats there Friday! Just stay down river from the ramp.

Crestliner we are going to try and catch our own bait for the first time this year. Do you put in at 5th street and catch them above the Roanoke Dam or do you put in at the Thelma Boat Ramp and catch them below the Gaston Dam? Is one better than the other? Do you need to put out lights? I have never done it before so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for any advice. Dwayne
