Would depend on the type of fishing that you have in mind. All sorts of rod holders on the market.

My drum fishing rod holders are nothing more than 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe anchored straight up in the jonboat. Gotta have a good base for drum or they will rip it out and throw it back at ya.
