Purchased an new shimano graphite spinng rod today. Action is a spec of a rod. it can be med med-fast fast. what does the term mean, What is it measuring??

I can't wait to cast this fall for a big one at Bouge this fall.

The term action describes how fast the rod tapers toward the tip, but also takes into account variations in blank thickness. If most of the flex in a rod occurs in the top 1/4 of the rod it is considered an ex-fast action. If most of the flex occurs in the top 1/3 it is considered a fast action. Flex down to 1/2 is med action and down 2/3 -3/4 is considered moderate, anything past 3/4 is considered a slow action rod. The term power is used to describe the rod's overall resistance to bending. This is a function of material rigidity and thickness. A lot of cheaper rods might just say med hvy and leave it to you to decide whether they are talking about action or power.
Always remember that a rod is a lever and a spring. Energy is stored in the rod
during the inital part of the cast and is released in the final part of the cast. The length of the lever ( rod ) determines how much tip speed you can generate. the stored energy in the spring allows the tip speed to increase even more at the end of the cast. This all transfers to the projectile,
