This has been discussed before but since I just got a new boat registration I got this notice with it and thought I would repost since it was an official notice from NC Wildlife

On or after May 1, 2010 any person under the age of 26 must complete a NASBLA approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10HP or greater.

It is actually a really good course to take. I did it a few years ago and it was full of info I didn't know about. There are several free options and a couple you can pay for as well. I did the free one and it took about 5 hours start to finish.

Most insurance companies that insure your boat will give you a 10 percent discount. The class I took had about 15 people and all but 1 was over 40.

US Coastguard boater safety course was part of our curriculum in the 7th grade. If you were in the 7th grade, you had to take it. Circa 1980. Still got the certificate.
