Does anyone here use silver spoons for speckled trout or does it not really work as well here as the gulf coast? Would like to try a silver Mogan spoon.
i've caught a few trout on them targeting reds but typically a trout wants a start stop motion in the retrieve... like bouncing a jig or popping a cork or a twitch pause twitch pause of a mirror lure... trout usually hit on the pause.
not saying they won't hit it but you have a better chance of catching them on something else. it might work good if you used a lighter spoon with a slow roll/ jigging action.
When I first moved to NC I was using some of my "northern" lures and caught specks on small Red Eye Wigglers and Doctor spoons. I don't use them anymore since the other methods catfish hunter mentioned are more effective. That, and those spoons didn't hold up to saltwater at all.
