South Cary Pond! New PB

973 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  mstanfield44
Ended up going to a pond in South Cary. I had only been there once in the dead of winter.

Managed 5 all over 2.5lbs and a new PB of 4.1lbs. As a new bass fisherman still learning the area and how to fish I am pretty stoked.

I could of probably caught more numbers but dedicated the few hours I had to strictly swimbait fishing to gain confidence.

That was a great outing. What swim baits were you using?

Nice fish Ryk! I can imagine the adrenaline rush when he smacked your lure!

Savage Gear Blue Gill 4 inch and Megabass Magdraft 6inch but had no takers for that.
That's awesome. When I was learning to bass fish, I had a pond 5 minutes from me that was loaded with big fish. I learned a ton fishing that place. I developed confidence in a bunch of different baits that way.
Ayyyy alright man congrats! Anytime you get a new PB it's a good outing. I'm only about 3 years in myself so I'd consider pretty new but I agree with your tactic and tired to do the same, try new types of lures I hadn't used before and only bring those/force myself to throw them for a couple hours. Good way to gain confidence and practice retrieves and presentations with whatever you're working with. That's a long fish too for 4 pounds - keep at it and you'll have another new PB in no time
Yeah i think its the only way to learn. Small swim baits and wacky rigs are my confidence baits right now. Been improving with the chatter baits but only started bass fishing April 2022.

I think if I caught her pre-spawn probably would of been 5lbs+

Topwater bite will start heating up soon. IMO, THAT is the most fun way to catch bass. Grab yourself a buzzbait, whopper plopper, or a frog/toad and hold on...

Try Bond but take a walk along the root filled path to find the little cutouts far less presssure than at the dam and docks

Way to go! Anytime now especially on a warm morning or PM go and throw a Lunker Lure; the original buzzbait.
At dark throw a Jitterbug. You will be hooked.

Nicecatch. I am new to the sport myself and have hit my own pond down near Monroe, and a couple down in Bamberg SC. Loving the peace of it.
