I would like to add a few to my arsenal, I have read that trout usually like silver and drum like gold?

What would you guys suggest as far as size and brand?

Thanks

I like Johnson silver minnows. Some people get fancy with colors, I prefer the KISS method. Gold for cloudy days and silver for sunny days. It's good to have a couple of 1/4 and 1/2 oz in each

I've only used the 1/4 and 1/2 oz Johnson gold ones and have had decent luck. I use the 1/4 oz in 1-3' water and the 1/2 oz in deeper water. I've never tried black but read their good in darker waters. (We replied at the same time Trigger, pretty much the same)

Thanks...I casted a Hopkins spoon about 1/4 mile off in the surf yesterday. I tripped the bail mid cast like a rookie and snapped the braid above the swivel. I may have tied a bad knot or it may have had a nick. Either way I watched $5 and my only spoon sail out of my life for the day.
I have done that and also one better; I tripped my bail a little later than that and did not snap the line. Instead it comes back like a rifle shot and if you are lucky it whizzes past your ear and buries itself in the sand without hitting anyone.

Always said if I saw one in a tackle shop that I would pick a couple of them up to try.

Flats Intruder spoons are very high quality, have perfect action, and are slightly less than Johnson Silver Minnows. Hint: try the copper finish.

Have read attaching a swivel prevents line twists? I've always just tied a small loop knot and done ok. Anybody use a swivel with any better luck?
I too use a small swivel. I tried without and had a large amount of line twist.

Anyone use the Bomber "Who-Dat" spoons? I have one but have not fished it. They look neat and make a lot of rattling noise.
I don't know why the johnson spoon would twist up the line? I fish the 1/4 & 1/8 oz and the spoon just sort of waddles back & forth and never spins? Is it the speed of retrieval?
I did put a spinner ahead of a 1/8 oz spoon just for giggles but I have not caught anything with it yet. I used a 3/4" chrome spinner with beads above and below. I never made one before but I happened to have a few spinners and the little thing to attach it to the leader. I used a piece of guitar string for the leader and twisted the ends with a pair of safety wire pliers.
I have one of the who-dat spoons but refuse to use the thing because of the name. A friend of mine (New Orleans native and Saints fan extraordinaire) bought it for me knowing how much I hated that phrase.
