The reports of large schools of spots near the beaches this week-end brought cheers from the the pier crowd. The much anticipated arrival of the Spot has materilized on the ocean side. The sound side should see schools of spots invade the inshore waters very soon as well.

Around these parts, the Spot is held in high regard and is a favorite of many locals. In fact Hamsptead has an annual Spot Festival to celebrate the fishes annual pilgramage to the area. This year it is Sept. 22 - 24th.

Reports from the three piers on Topsail Island indicate that at times durin g the past few days, the spot bite was strong enough to fill the coolers of a number of anglers. At times they were even being caught two at a time.

So if you like spots, grab a pole and GO FISH!

This is a fun little, great tasting fish. If you have kids or know kids(or for that matter anyone who is "impatient" when fishing..LOL) you want to get into fishing this is the time to go!! Nothing like the look on their faces when they start pulling em in two ata time as fast as the bait hits the water! Of course some of us use 2 rigs together and go for triples and quads :) Grab some wigglers or bloodworms and go go go!!!

How long does the run last? Is there much chance they'll still be around on the 30th? I'm not sure I can make it down there before then....

Still planning on coming down on the 23rd and staying around Surf City. Most of my fishing will bed done from the surf. Are the spots still around and are there many pompano being caught. I caught a few last October at Atlantic Beach and this was
by far the best fish I have ever ate. Any suggestions for fishing this stretch of coastline. Greg

Barring a storm, you should have great fishing next week, phoneman. Spots and Pompano will still be here. If there are sand fleas in sand, I recomend you use those for the Pompano as they love them and if they are around they will eat them before anything else. For the spots, blood worms or Fish Bites work well. Shrimp is always a stand by for either.

There is a nice article on this site for Pompano that you might want to read, http://www.ncangler.com/forums/showthread.php?t=794

Also stop in East Coast Sports in Surf City on the right before the light after you cross the bridge, Chris or Doug will have the latest info on what is biting.
