Someone has asked for information on the season and regulations/licensing for fishing the Meherrin River for Striped Bass. I am unfamiliar with the Meherrin and thought I'd ask for the input of our membership.

Questions:
  1. Where is the Meherrin?
  2. When does the season run?
  3. Suggestions on where to put in?
  4. Suggestions on technique/baits?
  5. Some insight or direction on MFC rules/regulations and licensing?
  6. Got a story about fishing the Meherrin?

Thanks for your input! :)

I received the following information from the Northern District Manager of the NC Division of Marine Fisheries:

The recreational striped bass season in the Albemarle Sound Management Area (ASMA) has been extended until 6:00 pm APril 30, 2005, unless closed earlier by proclamation. The Meherrin River, tributary to the Chowan River is in the ASMA. The season is currently open 7 days a week and a 2 fish per person per day creel limit and an 18 inch total length minimum size limit. There is a striped bass information page on our web site that gives the current information (www.ncdmf.net).
