I like to try this but I need help! Freshwater or saltwater? I need the basics whens and wheres and the book that has striper fishing for dummy's on the front of it. Thanks
I've gotten a couple at Jordan dragging big bucktails tipped with bass minnows from the kayak. First one I was moving really slow in the cold weather last winter, and the second I was moving pretty fast this spring. Mostly just watching the angle of the line and the fish finder to try and keep the bait in the zone where I saw activity on the graph.
There were a couple weeks this fall when stripers were being caught way up the Haw by kayakers on various swimbaits, topwaters & crankbaits. I made one trip during that time but didn't get my fish.
Sassy shad are always good. I think they are little better than bucktails in colder weather. When it the water gets cold, the threadfin shad start getting really slow and stressed. A redhead jig with a sassy shad works well to make the fish think they are dealing with a stressed red nosed shad.
I think there's a guy coming to Get Outdoors in Greensboro on Jan. 16 to give a talk on striper fishing during the NC Kayak Fishing Assoc meeting. I think the meeting starts at 10 am but you should call Get Outdoors to be sure. I saw some of the stripers this guy has caught and it sure got my attention. I usually break out the beagles each sat. but they're going to stay at home that day. I too would like to hook up with a striper.
I will check the Get outdoors web site for times, The Wabbit and Ducks might get a day off. I like to understand more about striper fishing and the where and times to catch them. Thanks guy for the lure selection good info..
I was catching stripers at buggs back on new years eve & new years day. I hear that they have slowed way down now. I ended up with about 10 ea day. I heard of 1 fish caught Monday. But that is all I heard.
I just got on here today. I have owned a yak for several yrs now. BUT I just really started using it. I found out about the fishing up at buggs. How is the fishing there this time of the yr? I wanted to make a trip today to carolina beach to try for the reds. But I went to Jordan instead.
