Surf fishing salter path mid April

Going to salter path mid April Taking a trip from corolla to salter path, ferries and all lighthouse . Don't have time to fish along the way, but be at salter path for two nights! There has got to be some good surf or pier fishing this time of year. What should I fish for and best rigs to use? My wife and I are looking forward to good spring weather. Thanks for any help
