Surprise species today

I was having fun catching little fish and scaring the carp when I felt a strong pull. At first I thought I snagged a carp but then it shot out of the water like a torpedo. Bowfin fought for a bit but wasn't too difficult to steer to the bank. New species for me. Decided not to lip this one. Fun surprise ending to a beautiful morning out.

looks like a maribou crappie jig to me. funny what they'll eat, i caught a little one about that size on a beetle spin last year
I was below the dam of Horton's Pond near Jordan. That's a 1/8 oz roostertail. The fish was about 18-20" long.

I have been throwing rooster tails on a lake with smaller fish been having decent success. Now just gotta get one on the new light action rod I got for crappie that I have used with jigs at Lynn and caught a bunch of bream on it so far.

I would love to go out and catch a bunch of anything. I get so stuck on Bass that I forget what to do for the smaller species. I replied to remind myself to get a light setup for crappie.

I have caught many very large crappie at lynn by accident on crankbaits. The dam side has a lot of depth variation, humps and stuff, they love it. Out in about the center of the lake at sundown is ridiculous. If I was able to eat out of that lake id fish it for crappie all the time.
