So I keep my boat at a secured storage facility in Swansboro and after taking last weekend off, I returned to my boat tonight to find that someone decided to replace their batteries with the ones from the back of my boat. I am assuming they are using them because they took the time to disconnect the cables and still took the washers and nuts.

Fortunately they left the rest of the boat alone. I hate thieves.

I think the storage place has video, but won't find out until Monday.

A few years ago we had 2 guys going out at night in a Jonboat with a trolling motor and a rechargeable impact wrench snatching props off boats in the lifts along the water.
I went out to my first old boat beside the house one Sunday morning and saw my fuel line dangling over the side. 2 - 6 gal tanks and 2 batteries, and my cast net in a bucket, GONE.

Hate to think it, but there are a few suspect boats that were added to the facility in the past two weeks.........I was on the verge of taking a peek in one of them, batteries would be easy to distinguish, came from the dealer.

It's amazing to me to see what people will leave on their docks and their boats. I am not condoning anyone stealing, but I really have been amazed. Hope you catch the thieves, if not hope they get theirs.

Jeez dude...Makes you want to install proximity triggered claymor's.

I knew a guy who knew a guy...that would go through marina's on a jon boat cutting outboard motors off with a sawzall, removing S/N ID tags and selling them to a shop somewhere. I wanted to find out who it was and pay him a visit.

A game cam is very cheap, works in infrared, and is motion activated.... Be nice to mount somewhere with a good view of your boat.

About 6 months ago, I convinced a jewish friend of mine to install one after some local kids put a cross in her yard. A few days later, the camera caught them painting a swastika on her garage doors. Neighbor kids, but that's a line you don't cross. Unfortunately, the sherriff's department charged them with vandalism instead of a hate crime, so they only had to pay a fine....no record of swastika or cross in the police reports, which really upset my Jewish friend.

Hate Crime is a major offense. I don't see branding stupid kids with such a label. Had it been adults I would say fry em!

Shame to pay for a place to store your boat and not have good security. I would look into a better facility, chain my batteries and the cam is a good idea.

Of course you would have to use some common sense in installing such a camera on the boat. I wouldn't suggest dash mounting it beside the depth finder.

I would be a little leary of the boat yard myself especially if they haven't taken much interest in folks getting ripped off in their lot which I'm sure is going at premium prices.
